Description	The small circular snuffbox has an embossed, or repousse, design of rose petals and leaves on a hinged lid.
Scope and Content Note	Elisabeth Francis Whitaker (b. October 14, 1840, d. November 13, 1897) owned this small silver snuff box. Snuff, a preparation of pulverized tobacco for inhaling, was used commonly by women in the nineteenth century. This box purportedly traveled originally from England to Boston, Massachusetts in 1791, and then in 1849 to Nacogdoches, Texas. The silversmith's technique of hammering or pressing on the reverse side to create a relief design is known as repousse'.
