Title
Texas
Coral
Snake
Location
Sabine
National
Forest
,
Texas
Description
Despite
the
popular
belief
that
coral
snakes
cannot
envenomate
humans
with their
small
mouths
,
coral
snakes
are
quite
capable
of
biting
humans
and
injecting
venom
.
Because
of the
small
fangs
of the
coral
snake
relative
to
other
snakes
and the
amount
of
time
it
can
take
for
venom
to
take
effect
,
coral
snakes
will
often
latch
on to a
victim
rather
than
strike
and
let
go
. Any
bite
by a
coral
snake
should be
considered
serious
and should be
followed
by a
visit
to an
emergency
room
.
Coral
snakes
feed
primarily
on
other
small
snakes
but will also
eat
small
lizards
. These
snakes
are
very
secretive
and
prefer
to
hide
under
leaf
litter
,
rotting
logs
and
other
forest
debris
.
