The
Common
Snapping
Turtle
inhabits
slow-moving
rivers
,
ponds
, and
marshes
.
It
rarely
leaves
the
water
,
except
to
bask
in the
sunlight
. The
snapping
turtle
will
eat
almost
anything
it
comes
across
,
including
animal
remains
,
fish
,
birds
,
small
mammals
,
amphibians
, and
aquatic
plants
.
It
has been
reported
that the
snapping
turtle
will
decapitate
other
small
turtles
by
biting
them,
though
the
purpose
of this
behavior
has not
yet
been
explained
.
