Description
The
Black
Spiny-tailed
Iguana
is
native
to
Mexico
and
Central
America
but
introduced
populations
have
established
themselves
on the
Florida
coast
and
surrounding
islands
. These
iguanas
spend
much
of their
time
basking
on
rocks
.
Although
they
prefer
rocky
habitats
, they are
excellent
climbers
and are
capable
of
retreating
high
into
trees
when
threatened
. The
Black
Spiny-tailed
Iguana
is
mostly
herbivorous
but will
occasionally
eat
eggs
,
small
animals
, and
arthropods
as the
opportunities
present
themselves
.
