Description
The
Golden
Poison
Dart
Frog
is
a
popular
pet
worldwide
, but in the
wild
is
endemic
to the
Pacific
coast
of
Columbia
. The
only
known
natural
predator
of this
frog
is
the
Leimadophis
epinephelus
snake
. This
snake
has
developed
a
resistance
to the
frog's
poison
,
which
has
enough
potency
to
kill
ten
grown
men
. In the
wild
, these
frogs
will
eat
ants
,
termites
,
spiders
, and
other
small
arthropods
. They are
considered
one
of the
most
toxic
animals
on the
planet
.
When
fed
fruit
flies
and
crickets
in
captivity
,
however
, these
frogs
lose
their
toxicity
.
Keeping
these
frogs
as
pets
can
be a
big
commitment
: in
captivity
,
poison
dart
frogs
can
live
for as
long
as
ten
years
.
