Loggerhead's
scientific
name
is
derived
from the
French
caret

turtle.
"
Loggerheads
are
characterized
by their
powerful
jaws
,
which
they
use
to
crush
mollusks
and
crustaceans
. The
main
threat
to
loggerheads
today
is
incidental
catch
in
fishing
nets
or on
longline
hooks
.
Other
threats
include
damage
by
speed
boat
propellers
and
poaching
.
