The
American
Alligator
inhabits
wetland
areas
of the
southeastern
United
States
.
It
eats
just
about
anything
it
can
,
including
fish
,
birds
,
snakes
,
turtles
,
lizards
,
crustaceans
, and
small
mammals
.
Alligators
have also been
known
to
eat
larger
animals
,
such
as
cattle
.
Attacks
on
people
are
rare
and are
usually
associated
with
alligators
that have been
fed
by
humans
before
.
Nevertheless
,
it
is
not
safe
to
hang
around
where
alligators
are
known
to
lurk
.
