Description
The
Pacific
Giant
Salamander
is
the
largest
terrestrial
salamander
in
North
America
. Its
range
extends
from
British
Columbia
to
northern
California
and
it
is
most
often
encountered
in
mountain
lakes
or
near
cold
streams
in
coniferous
forests
. This
salamander
will
eat
almost
anything
it
can
overpower
,
including
insects
,
smaller
amphibians
,
newly-hatched
fish
, and
small
rodents
. The
Pacific
Giant
Salamander
is
also
known
as the
Coastal
Giant
Salamander
and
is
large
enough
to be
capable
of
delivering
a
painful
bite
when
handled
.
