Although
commonly
mistaken
for the
Cottonmouth
, the
Banded
Water
Snake
is
actually
a
non-venomous
colubrid
snake
that
only
typically
bites
when
harassed
or
handled
.
It
is
found
in
nearly
every
type
of
aquatic
habitat
within
its
range
,
including
lakes
,
rivers
,
ponds
,
creeks
, and
cattle
tanks
,
where
it
eats
primarily
fish
and
amphibians
.
