Description
The
Common
Musk
Turtle
is
also
known
as the "
Stinkpot
"
because
of the
musk
it
secretes
when
threatened
. The
Common
Musk
Turtle
prefers
to
spend
time
at the
bottom
of
permanent
bodies
of
water
,
including
lakes
,
ponds
, and
streams
,
though
it
is
often
encountered
basking
as
high
as
six
feet
from the
surface
of the
water
. The
greatest
threat
to this
turtle
is
habitat
destruction
from
urbanization
,
water
pollution
, and
drainage
.
