threatened
, are
known
to
strike
repeatedly
and
rattle
their
tail
in
imitation
of
rattlesnakes
.
However
, they are
non-venomous
and
do
not
actually
possess
rattles
. These
snakes
, as their
name
suggests
,
feed
primarily
on
rats
and
mice
, but they have also been
known
to
climb
trees
as
high
as
40
feet
to
prey
on
birds
and
other
small
prey
such
as
flying
squirrels
.
