Description
The
Southern
Redback
Salamander
inhabits
moderately
dry
hardwood
forests
,
usually
beneath
rocks
and
woody
debris
to
retain
moisture
and
remain
hidden
. This
salamander
lives
on a
diet
of
mostly
ants
and
beetles
but will also
eat
snails
,
worms
,
spiders
, and
centipedes
. The
range
of the
Southern
Redback
Salamander
consists
of the
following
four
isolated
regions
in the
eastern
United
States
:
Salem
Plateau
in
Missouri
,
Ouachita
Mountains
in
Arkansas
and
Oklahoma
,
central
Louisiana
, and the
Piedmont
and
Blue
Ridge
provinces
of
Georgia
,
Alabama
,
Tennessee
, and
North
Carolina
.
