The

wooden
structure
was
dedicated
on
November
15
,
1924
. The
building
was
named
after
prominent
Nacogdoches
businessman
and
manufacturer
Frank
Speir
Aikman
who
donated
$12,000
for its
construction
.
It
had a
basketball
court
,
large
stage
, and
could
seat
3500
people
when
the
court
was not in
use
. The
gym
quickly
became
a
popular
venue
for
all
types
of
events
.
