Robert C. McCrary, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake McCrary, was born on November 13, 1914, in Cushing, Texas. He entered the Air Force on November 17, 1941, and won his wings several months later at Tyndall Field, Florida. McCrary received several decorations during his campaigns throughout World War II, including the American Defense ribbon, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Unit Badge. McCrary was promoted to Staff Sergeant early in his military career.

Scope and Content Note
This collection includes service documents, personal papers, and a diary in which McCrary kept details of bombing missions in Europe which he took part in from May 10 to September 5, 1944. Also included are aerial photographs of bombings in Germany.
