About this collection

The Tyler Museum of Art began in 1952 as a committee of women who wanted to provide children living in Tyler, TX with an opportunity to see works of art. Throughout the years the Tyler Service League, which would become the Junior League of Tyler, continued bringing the visual arts to the citizens of Tyler. In 1971, the Junior League fulfilled its goal of opening the Tyler Museum of Art. (From History of Tyler Museum of Art.)
