Personal Information	In 1877, Richard Haltom is hired by his Uncle, R. D. Orton, to work for his uncle's newspaper, Nacogdoches News. By 1878 his uncle retired from the newspaper and Haltom purchased the business and renamed the business Nacogdoches Star. In 1894, Haltom served as the clerk of the district court of Nacogdoches County and he resigned the position in 1896. Haltom re-established the Nacogdoches Chronicle with his brother Giles in 1899. He also established the Daily Phone with W. H. Harris, which later turned into The Daily Sentinel. In 1905, Haltom was elected to the Texas House of Representatives.
Family Information	John J. Hayter and Elizabeth Hays Hayter were the parents of Samuel Hays Hayter. Samuel Hays Hayter and Elizabeth M. Finch Hayter had four children named John Jeff, Ann Elizabeth, Mariah "Aunt Babe" and Lucy.
