Biographical Note	Emily Hughes Davis was born on October 15, 1805 in Goshen, Georgia. She married Dr. Samuel Sexton in 1822 and they moved to San Augustine, Texas about 1833. The couple lived in what later became the Crocket House. George Louis Crocket found the diary among some old papers in the house and made this typescript. Emily was widowed in 1841 and deeded a tract of land to the Wesleyan College in 1847, a year after her son, Frank Barlow, graduated from there. She and her son were very close and she shared the house with his family until the family grew too large, she then moved to another house on the same property. (Compiled in the Eugene C. Scope and Content Note	In the diary she writes of her daily activities - church, quilting, gardening, horseback riding, callers who came and visits she paid. She writes about Francis Wilson (Methodist preacher. See Francis Wilson Papers), a Methodist Conference, the Regulator-Moderator War and Sam Houston's coming to settle the disputes.
