Biographical Note	Benjamin F. Duren was born in Alabama the son of Jesse and Margaret Brothers Duren and married Susan Cole. Benjamin was a surveyer from Crockett, Texas and surveyed land all over Texas with his wife Susan's help. They owned land in Angelina, Cherokee, Anderson, Houston and Leon Counties. Benjamin served in the Civil War 7th Texas Calvary, Green's Brigade, Company D. (Minter, Velma and Zelma Beathard. "Jesse Duren Family." In History of Houston County, Texas, 1687-1979, 337. Scope and Content Note	Most of the book contains lyrics to songs and medical remedies of the time. The year listed in the finding aid is the year that it was written in the book by B.F. Duren, with the exception of 1884 and 1889 which was written in by Mollie Duren.
