Biographical Note	Henry T. Curl was born August 6, 1838, in Arkansas. He came to Texas with his parents, Thomas J. and Laurena Garrett Curl, in 1841 and they settled in San Augustine County. In 1860 Curl and Julia Taylor, the daughter of Charles S. Taylor, were married. They lived in Chireno and had one child, Anna Laura. During the Civil War, Curl served with Co. A., 17th Regt. Texas Cavalry. He died April 14, 1864, leaving Julia a young widow. When her daughter, Laura Curl, married John V. Hughes and moved to Dallas, Julia went to live with them and her brother, Lawrence Taylor, took care of her interests involving land matters in Nacogdoches County. Scope and Content Note	These papers include Civil War letters from Henry Curl to his wife, Julia, and one to her brother, Lawrence S. Taylor. The letter to Lawrence is quite long and gives an extremely detailed and interesting account of Henry's experiences in the war.

Transcript	Nacogd 6 de Nov. 1832 Sr Dn Jasper Floris Mi estimado primo de mi aprecio: La no ocurrencia de asunto interasante pa. mi habia interrumpido nuestra correspondencia. Ahora q. se me ofrece uno, me veo in el casa de inferirle la molestia q. a consijuiente y es el casa. El Sr Dn Carlos Taylor vecino y del comercio de este pueblo abtubo del cabo congrado de sargto de la Componia presidial de Monclova. Co Ramon de la Cerda una consesion de cinco Sitios de teirra q. el dupo Govo del Estado confireo a este ultimo en clase de venta conforme a la anterior ley de colonizacion; y como al interisado conviene adguiria la posesion y titulos de dicha tierra de conformidad con las leyes, se ha considerado mesesario q. el cabo Cerda, adquiridor del Govo otorgue ante el alcalde de soa cindad un pader en tuda forma. especial paros q. el Sr Taylor en uso de los ?erechos q. a' aquel competen solicita y obtenja laposesion y titulos del mensimado terreno por aquella via y forma q. las leyes tiencu prevenco. A este fin, pros, me tono la libertad de Implicar aV. se sirba habloar al cabo Ramon de la Cerda de Parte de Sr Taylor y mia, para y stoyue ante el alcalde de esa cindad el poder especial q. dejo indicado, con presencia de la concesion, Pa cuyo fin es adjunta una capia, y para q. de ellos se haja especial mension en el ya refeio opoder. Los dros judiciales tanto en origenal, com en testimonio, y papel sellado, tendra'.
