Construction
on the
Men's
Dormitory
(now
known
as
Wisely
Hall)
started
on
July
29
,
1935
by
A.M
.
Campbell
&
Company
of
Tyler
.
It
was the
first
residence
hall
built
on the
campus
and
funded
with
Public
Works
Administration
funds
. The
first
floor
housed
the
Dean's
rooms
and
offices
, a
postoffice
, a
reception
room
, and
several
residence
rooms
. The
ground
floor
housed
a
public
cafeteria
and
dining
room
as
well
as a
kitchen
,
laundry
room
,
storage
rooms
, and a
recreational
room
. The
top
floor
was for
residents
'
rooms
.
Each
room
had
twin
beds
,
separate
closets
, a
shower
between
rooms
,
dressing
stands
, and
high-boys
.
All
floors
had
two
telephones
,
two
water
fountains
, a
linen
chute
, an
electric
clock
, and a
buzzer
that
leads
to the
main
office
. In
1948
with the
construction
of a
new
mens
dormitory
on
campus
, this
building
was
bestowed
the
named
Wisely
Hall
in
honor
of
J
.
H
.
Wisley
who
served
as the
College's
Business
Manager
and
head
of the
Department
of
Commerce
at the
time
of his
death
on
May
25
,
1945
.
Today
,
Wisely
Hall
is
the
only
honors
residence
hall
on
campus
.
