CONLON - Executive Director * * * SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 3, 1983 ~: This DSG Legislative Report covers Democratic Caucus activities as well as House Floor legislative business. MONDAY, JAN. 3 Democratic Caucus -- Meets at 9:30 a.m. to c on~ider whether to omit from the rules package for the 98th Congress the proposed House rule change requiring two-thirds of the House to sign a discharge petition on a Constitutional Amendment. Opening Day Activities -- The House will convene at noon to swear-in Members of Congress, elect the Speaker, and take up a number of routine housekeeping measures, such as electing House officers and notifying the Senate and President that the House has convened. Rules of the House -- H.Res. 1, will provide for the standing rules of the 98th Congress (page 1). Key votes are expected. TUESDAY, JAN. 4 * Democratic Caucus -- Meets at 10 a.m. to elect Committee Chairmen for the 98th Congress. * * * WEDNESDAY, JAN. 5 Nothing Scheduled. THURSDAY & FRIDAY, JAN. 6 & 7 Democratic Caucus -- Meets at 10 a.m. Thursday to consider Steering & Policy Committee recommendations with respect to Ways & Means, Budget. Appropriations, and other standing committee aSSignments. Key votes are anticipated. House Floor Action -- It is expected that there will be a House session either Thursday afternoon or Friday to ratify the actions of the Democratic Caucus and the Republican Conference with respect to assignment of Members to House committees. * * *

Biographical Note | Congressman Charles Wilson began his political career in 1960 when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. He served in the Texas House of Representatives for six years and was then elected to the Texas Senate in 1966. On November 7, 1972, the second district of Texas elected Charles Wilson to the U.S. House of Representatives. He retired from the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996. |
