Biographical Note	The Shelby County (Texas) Cooperative Association P. of H. is thought to have been the only grocery store in Timpson (Shelby County), Texas in the 1890s. The letters P. of H. probably stand for "Patrons of Husbandry" an order of the Grange organized in New York in 1867, which was open to people associated with agricultural occupations. George Newton Weaver, born in 1844 in Kentucky, ran the Cooperative Association store. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army from Shelby County. In 1865, he returned from the war and married Harriet Matilda Woolwine in Caledonia, Texas. In addition to being a merchant and soldier, Weaver was a preacher, dentist, doctor, and surveyor. He died in 1930 in Timpson.
Scope and Content Note	Part of the book contains a brief journal which appears to be a record of trips taken from 1895 to 1900 (author unknown). In the same handwriting are copied some inspirational thoughts. At the end of the book are several pages of a diary which begins with the announcement of the birth of Edward Boone Brackett, Jr. in 1905 and ends about 1912. There are very few entries and all have been written at some later time. The cash book is in very poor condition with many pages missing and others loose and crumbling.
